Data Logging

Here at Easy Tune have spent alot of time refining our Datalogger, as without data all you have is an opinion! Our datalogger is designed to be used to collect data both prior and post flashing your vehicle with a custom tune. With our Easy Tune files we have redesigned the factory logging to supply upwards of 60hz data collection on up to 50 Pids (60 times a second!), this is approximately 20 times faster than the facotry logging of the same data set.

Our log viewer is also compatible with HPTuners CSVs, and Techstream CSVs, here is an example datalog from techstream that you can interact with.

Running a Datalog

To run a datalog on our Easy Tune platform is extremely simple, first connect to your vehicle, then select the Data Logging item from top tabs

Once you have clicked the log button you will be taken to the datalogging screen ready to go.

From this screen we have the following buttons

  • Start Data Log: You can start and stop the datalog with this button, alternatively the keyboard has been bound with the spacebar to start and stop also
  • History Time: This toggles the length of the live data display, warning high time periods will put heavier load on your PC to keep up with the graphical demand
  • Data Setup: This button allows you to customise the data and how it is viewed in the LIVE DATA screen, you can change the number of charts, the scaling of the graph and the units displayed here
  • Settings Button: This allows for importing or exporting your current view configuration, so you can customise your layout view no matter what vehicle you are connected to
  • Marking a Datalog: This is a keybound to the "M" key on your keyboard, this will insert a vertical RED marker in the log that can be later viewed, this is designed for you to quickly place a mark in the log that is easily findable later to assist with diagnosing or viewing a specific time point within the datalog.

Data Setup

From the Data Setup menu, you can add or remove the data items that you wish to see, the scaling for each item and the unit of measure for each item.

These items are auto saved on exit, by clicking the X at the top of the window. You can then save this config by visiting the setup button.

Settings Button

This menu allows you to toggle the Smoothing option on or off and import / export data setup configurations. The smoothing function allows the system to smooth the edges on the data to give a more natural flow, you can disable this if you wish to view the raw data as it has come from the ecu. Importing and exporting will save a configuration file to your computer that you can import again to load your prefferred settings for the datalog viewer.

Inspector

The Datalog inspector is a brand new feature that we have designed here at Easy Tune, it is designed for the end user to quickly and confidently verify the integrity of the tune on their vehicle without having any prior knowledge.

The inspector has four categories that each of the datalog items are sorted into:

  • Error: These items are outside the extreme bounds that we have set for the data item and needs to be addressed immediately to avoid any engine damage
  • Warn: These items are beginning to drift towards an Error value and need to be addressed to ensure the vehicle continues to operate safely
  • Success: These items are within the boundaries we have set to keep your vehicle safe and reliable, all green here is the goal
  • Info: These items are purely informational and are reminders or informational only

The aim of the inspector is to have all items fall within the success column. This will give you peace of mind to know that your vehicle is running as it should be, the great part about this as well, is you can perform this at anytime to ensure that your vehicle is always running as it should be.

Chart

The chart section is where you can view your datalog in a chart format. You have the same ability to load and store configs, smoothing options and also data setup options as the live chart viewer.

You can hover over the lines to see what you are viewing and the tool tip will pop up with all the relevant data shown on the chart. image alt text

Here you can see our markers that we placed on the log, You also have the ability to alt + click on the graph anywhere to lock the Channels list on the left, this will place the white vertical dotted marker on the screen and you can scroll through all the channels to view all the data at this location.

Histogram

The histogram is still in Beta testing, but it allows for you to graph any datalog item against any others with an axis of your choosing, you can then view the data in a table size of your choosing with a frequency colouring on the data.

Metadata

The Metadata of the log contains all the relevant information for easy viewing by any party that the log is shared with including a dealer. You can insert a comment as well with specific notes that can be viewed when the datalog is open.
